Print Services get behind the wheel at Hertz Australia

In March 2004 Corporate Express won the tender to supply complete Print Management Services to Hertz Australia, replacing the previous supplier who had held the business for 34 years.

Brent Howard, National Procurement Manager for Hertz Australia is very pleased and impressed with the standards and service of Corporate Express.

“They have very quickly come to understand the demands of our business. Instead of potentially ‘reacting’ to our many locations and the needs of over 1,000 staff, they have proactively managed us and maintained a disciplined customer service focus,” Howard said.

This focus is the result of weekly onsite meetings at Hertz Australia’s Head Offices in Melbourne where most issues are planned and communicated leaving little room for error.

Over 400 plus print products are regularly designed, produced and managed for Hertz by Corporate Express. Even 2,000 specially designed ‘popcorn boxes’ were no problem in the case of a recent national promotion.

Corporate Express Print Services General Manager Jonathan Dickson said that, based on feedback, the transition was seamless.

“We knew that we would be an excellent fit for Hertz in all aspects of their print requirements,” Dickson said.

“Although they have over 200 locations throughout Australia, we cater to quite a few clients of the same size and demands and have, over time, streamlined our processes for similar size service delivery.

“But product fulfilment is just the beginning. Our model is all about taking costs off our clients and we have since concentrated on adding value to their business,” he said.

This added value is found in the ease and simplicity of Corporate Express’ online ordering system, called NetXpress. Like other large print clients, Hertz Australia can simply re-order online, 24x7, through NetXpress. This also allows Hertz to compare and manage their monthly spend and activity - from viewing stock on hand to cost centre and category spend analysis.

Items have a pre-determined hierarchy that only allows those Hertz managers with the correct cost centre authority to order, eliminating wastage and duplication.

“In a company the size of Hertz, maintaining print and image standards are the key drivers for operational and brand management. However, I think we have demonstrated our reliability to the point that Hertz management seems quite comfortable now when we occasionally take the wheel,” Dickson said.
