Corporate Express delivers IT solutions for Symbol
Symbol Technologies is a global leader in enterprise mobility solutions designed to capture, transmit and manage information for effective decision making and increased productivity. The maker of advanced data capture, radio frequency identification technology, mobile computing and wireless infrastructure products, Symbol has outsourced its internal Information Technology requirements to Corporate Express.
With 60 staff in Australia and 5,600 worldwide, Symbol was looking for a company to provide desktop and server support, IT sourcing and ordering and to act as an extension of the Global Symbol IT department overseas.
George Stathopoulos, APAC CIC Manager at Symbol, said the value proposition Corporate Express put on the table was excellent.
“When Corporate Express responded to the tender, they came out trumps – quality, cost, availability of human resources and general technical expertise. The fact that they are a large company, known for their quality of service and brand gave them the edge,” Stathopoulous said.
“Since they joined us at the beginning of 2004, they have shown their strength in resources to provide staff around the clock as required. Their field representative works in the office during business hours and as needed to ensure our staff can complete their tasks using the systems. He ensures the smooth day-to-day running of our IT systems.
“It’s all about keeping them up and running to ensure that any associated issues in IT are dealt with promptly and that we are productive. They have also worked with our corporate IT to deploy IT solutions locally.
“Another benefit is that we don’t only buy computers and IT equipment through them, but their strategy as a single source supplier opens the doors to other business requirements for our office environment over and above IT services, such as purchasing office supplies,” he said.
According to Stathopoulos, Symbol outsourced their IT due to the number of staff spread across Australia.
“From a financial perspective, it seemed better to outsource to a company that was structured to provide that kind of service. They are held in high regard and our people are very happy with the way they go about their work,” Stathopoulos said.
Michael Callanan, State Manager for the IT Solutions Division of Corporate Express, said there are a number of benefits to outsourcing IT.
“It gives the company time to focus on core business and to drive improvements. Also, we can scale quickly depending on the workload and according to business or project requirements,” Callanan said.
“There are also various costs and advantages from a financial and accounting point of view. Instead of using multiple suppliers with multiple credit relationships, Corporate Express acts as a one stop shop – saving time to concentrate on more important matters. Our tried and true contacts and existing relationships mean we can pass on cost benefits and can easily source differing types of skills required,” he said.
