Jumping tyre brings Monroe to life, thanks to Corporate Express

Tenneco Automotive in South Australia wanted to demonstrate how shock absorbers work, as although they are critical to a car’s performance many drivers really don’t understand their importance.

The aim was to produce a promotional product to support and reinforce the message being driven by their TV commercial and other communication tools.  The product had to capture the audience’s imagination, but not exceed their low-cost budget.

Russell Schrale, National Marketing Manager for Tenneco Automotive, could visualise what they wanted…but no such product existed. He asked his regular promotional suppliers if they could help him produce a ‘jumping tyre’, but they could not deliver. 

When he talked to Corporate Express they immediately set about sourcing the perfect jumping tyre.  Since no such product existed in Australia, they began working closely with an overseas supplier to produce the perfect model.

Various challenges had to be overcome in the pursuit of perfection: the speed and size of the jumping tyre; its durability; and perhaps most importantly, the size of its feet.  Too large, and it would fall over; too small, and it wouldn’t bear any weight. 

Between them, Corporate Express and the manufacturer were able to produce the first-ever jumping tyre of its type in the world.  

“The Jumping Tyre has been one of our most successful campaigns, and it was strengthened by Corporate Express’s ability to bring it to life,” Schrale said.

“And it’s largely due to their ability to take a brief, produce a custom-made prototype and exceed expectations in both quality and cost of the final product.

“The final working model has captured the public’s imagination, and demand for the jumping tyre is indicative of the success of the promotion,” he said.

The Monroe ‘jumping tyre’ created by Corporate Express won an industry award in 2005.
