Our approach to environmental management is ingrained in every part of our business – from sourcing and supplying a range of environmentally-preferable products for customers to promoting environmentally-responsible behaviour in all staff members.

We have a long-standing commitment to reducing the impacts our operations have on the environment. This commitment has been demonstrated through our involvement in various internal and external initiatives and programs. The focus of these programs has been on reducing our most material areas of impact such as greenhouse gas emissions and waste management. We are moving towards expanding this focus to bring us in line with global environmental management standards and allow us to become an environmental leader in the business supplies industry.

A significant focus this year was on building sustainable facilities including our new Sydney head office and data centre, and our New South Wales regional distribution centre. We also voluntarily reported our carbon footprint through Greenhouse Challenge Plus and in 2009 we will submit our first report to the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Alliances

Corporate Express has pursued alliances with other organisations to help raise sustainability awareness. These include Cartridge Rescue™, Paper Round as well as subscribing the Corporate Express fleet of delivery vehicles to Greenfleet Australia as a carbon abatement initiative.

Corporate Express is also a signatory of the National Packaging Covenant, an initiative by the government and industry leaders to reduce the environmental effects of packaging on the environment.
