Jasper Coffee: The journey to carbon neutral.
In 1989, Jasper was the first coffee roaster in Australia to offer freshly roasted organic coffee, and in 2003 they became Australia’s first commercial Fairtrade licensed roasters.
As part of a three-year project with The Carbon Reduction Institute, Jasper Coffee:
• Reduced their carbon footprint, streamlined packaging and reduced water and waste usage through an audit verified by Sustainability Victoria.
• Switched to Green Power
• Accounted for all sources of greenhouse gas emissions in their own processes – as required by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. But Jasper Coffee went even further, by accounting for emissions at every stage in their supply chain. Their commitment is to continue to report on these emission sources every year, and to continue to expand the boundaries of their carbon footprint.
• Purchased carbon offsets generated by the Karnataka Renewable Energy Project in India. This project collects waste, such as rice husks, and converts it cleanly into electricity for the local grid. This replaces coal fired electricity, thereby reducing air pollution and provides an income for local farmers.
As a 100% carbon neutral company, all of Jasper products are carbon neutral, and all products will be labelled with this Carbon Neutral certification.
