Simple Steps: I.T. the responsible way.
Simple Steps To Green IT
Did you know that 2.7% of carbon emissions and 7% of all electricity used in Australia comes from the Information and Communications sector.* Clearly, that’s a huge impact both on the environment and business’ bottom lines. The good news is there are simple steps you can take to lower this environmental impact while increasing your business efficiencies.
Simple Steps To Take Today
1. 20% of all IT power consumption is consumed by devices left on when not in use.* So to save energy ensure your computers are in hibernation whenever practical (i.e. lunchtime, during meetings and after work) and use black or static screen savers to conserve power.
2. When replacing old PCs and network equipment choose energy-efficient products that, at a minimum, have earned the Energy Star®.
3. Replace or consolidate old printers as they can consume over 60% of their power in standby mode.** Alternatively, opt for a multifunction device that replaces standalone faxes, copiers and printers.
4. Choose LCD or LED monitors over CRT as they use less energy. Similarly, new computer processors use significantly less power thanks to advanced power management features.
5. Think before you travel. Video Conferencing, teleconferencing and web conferencing are still great ways to bring people together without the need for travel.
